A COUNCIL has said that more than 100 pupils at two Denbighshire primary schools will have to self-isolate following coronavirus outbreaks.

Denbighshire County Council confirmed that 60 pupils at Ysgol Emmanuel, Rhyl and a total of 54 pupils at Ysgol Clawdd Offa in Prestatyn have been told to follow two-week self-isolation rules due to "associated" positive tests of Covid-19.

Four members of staff at the Rhyl school and five in Prestatyn have also been asked to self-isolate.

The schools will remain open following consultation with Public Health Wales, a council spokesperson said.

"Ysgol Emmanuel, Rhyl will be required to self-isolate until October 20 following a confirmed Covid 19 case associated with the school," said the spokesperson.

"Meanwhile, 54 pupils and 5 staff at Ysgol Clawdd Offa, Prestatyn will be required to self-isolate until October 22, following a confirmed Covid 19 case associated with the school.

"All parents and guardians have been informed and both the Local Authority and the schools have consulted with Public Health Wales.

"The schools remain open and the council is working closely with the schools affected, Public Health Wales as well as NHS Wales Test, Trace and Protect to ensure appropriate measures are in place to protect pupils, staff and the wider community."

The council urged parents and guardians at schools across the county to remain alert for the main symptoms of coronavirus including a new or continuous cough, high temperature and a change or loss of sense of smell or taste

Self-isolation rules include not going outdoors to exercise, visit shops, family or friends, or other public spaces.
