A COUPLE have appeared in court charged with assaulting an elderly Roman Catholic priest.
Ryan Patrick Kelly, 36, and Natalie Jane Jones, 25, both of Edward Henry Street, Rhyl, are accused of common assault on 72-year-old Father Charles Ramsay near St Mary’s Catholic Church in Wellington Road, Rhyl, on June 2. Both denied the charge.
Jones also pleaded not guilty to stealing Father Ramsay’s glasses but Kelly pleaded guilty to damaging the priest’s Toyota car.
Their solicitor, Alex Fitzgerald, told Llandudno magistrates that the basis of their “not guilty” pleas was Father Ramsay was the aggressor in the incident.
The cases were adjourned for a trial on November 17 and both defendants were bailed.
