A SERIES of litter picks carried out by a group of volunteers has helped keep Prestatyn a tidier place recently.

The 'Do your little bit' clean-ups, which took place between September 14 and 20, was part of an initiative set up by Environmentally Prestatyn to support the Keep Wales Tidy project.

Volunteers from the group, formerly known as the Prestatyn and District Environment Association, have been cleaning up Prestatyn High Street, the Ffrith, Coed y Morfa, Sandy Lane, Dyserth Walkway and Barkby Beach among other places.

Rhyl Journal:

On average, around 12 volunteers were on hand to help out each day with 97 hours of voluntary work being carried out in total.

The clean up saw 120 bags of rubbish collected throughout the week, with equipment provided to members by Keep Wales Tidy officer Gareth Jones.

Environmentally Prestatyn member Tracy Pierce, who is also a 'Litter Champion' with Keep Wales Tidy, said: "This year the Spring Clean Cymru was cancelled due to Covid restrictions. It was rearranged for #Autumncleancymru and, as with last year, we planned a week of Prestatyn town litter picks.

"Attendees included Environmentally Prestatyn and representatives from Prestatyn Rotary club, Inner wheel, Friends of the Ffrith, Hedgehog Help Prestatyn, Prestatyn railway station volunteers and Prestatyn Business forum and many more amazing helpers.

Rhyl Journal:

"We were lucky to have such fine weather and it felt good to be making a difference. Denbighshire county council were informed of our schedule and collected the rubbish promptly and guidelines from Keep Wales Tidy were followed."
