THE idea to open a florist during the pandemic has blossomed and become a reality for a mum of four.

Cindy Turton, who is married to Andrew and has a son and three daughters, will open Lavender Rose on Wednesday, September 2.

The new business on Foryd Road is right on Cindy's doorstep. Cindy has lived in Kinmel Bay for about 17 years; the shop is located by the old newsagents, by the crossroads.

Cindy said: "I’m really excited to be opening a florist in my own hometown of Kinmel Bay, just a stone’s throw away from my house. I’m really looking forward to meeting some new friendly faces from the area and to welcome visitors from elsewhere."

Cindy studied at Northop college and is a qualified florist.

She added: "I've always had a passion for floristry and have experience in floristry.

"During the pandemic, when on furlough, you have time to think. I've always wanted to work for myself. When the newsagents came up for rent, it was too much of an opportunity.

"I feel it is the right time. It seems mad during a pandemic, but this is something I needed to do."

Cindy said getting the shop ready over recent weeks has been a 'labour of love', with family and friends pitching in.

"Florists in general have been busy during the pandemic," Cindy said.

"It wasn't necessary what you think, but people have been sending bouquets to cheer people up. That has been encouraging to me - that florists have still been busy. I am optimistic. There isn't another florist in this area or Towyn."

The name Lavender Rose has been chosen for its personal connections.

"My mum loves Lavender and my nan loves her roses," Cindy said.

"I'm a traditional and modern florist. There will be some eco-friendly. There will be a variety of options and we will move more in the eco friendly direction over time.

"It has been really lovely to receive some fantastic help and support from some of my new business neighbours and lots of friendly passers-by have popped in to ask what will be coming soon.

"It has always been my ambition to open my own floristry business and to open Lavender Rose. I also have Jade and Pauline two other qualified florists working with me who are just as excited as me.

"I am feeling excited and nervous about opening. Everyone has been dead supportive. I'd like to say thank you to everyone who has helped or has been involved.

"I am absolutely thrilled to be opening."
