A SELFLESS person entered the sea off Prestatyn beach in an attempt to rescue someone who had got into difficulty.

This happened on Monday, August 24.

The Welsh Ambulance Service (WAS), Wales Air Ambulance, the RNLI and Rhyl Coastguard Rescue Team were called to Barky Beach at about 1.45pm after reports that a person was unconscious after being rescued from the water.

WAS sent three crews accompanied by an air ambulance that landed at the scene, before the individual was taken to Glan Clwyd Hospital.

A spokesperson from Rhyl RNLI said: "Our Inshore lifeboat and also Rhyl Coastguard Rescue Team were paged to Barkby beach, Prestatyn, to assist RNLI Lifeguards North Wales with medical assistance after a person had entered the sea to assist another who was brought out of the water safely.

"The rescuer then had a medical incident on the beach.

"As the inshore lifeboat arrived, the casualty was in the care of the ambulance service, and so was not required.

"The inshore lifeboat then left the scene, investigating a pleasure boat off the Nova, but all were ok.

"The lifeboat and coastguard teams then returned to station."

A Welsh Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We were called at 1.46pm to reports of an unconscious person.

“We responded with one rapid response car, one emergency ambulance our urgent care services team and the Wales Air Ambulance.
