A TWELVE-YEAR-OLD dog had to be rescued from a mountain in Snowdonia over the weekend after becoming unable to continue due to the 'heat and terrain'.

On Saturday, the Ogwen Valley Mountain Rescue Team (OVMRT) were on hand to retrieve the German Sheperd which had gotten into difficulty on the Eastern traverse on Tryfan.

They say they were called to attend the incident at 1pm.

An OVMRT spokesperson said: "The 12-year-old German Shepherd was unable to continue due to the heat and terrain and the owner phoned for help.

"A team member already on the hill with his family found the casualty group, helped the dog to drink more water, then led them back to the North Ridge.

"After descending several hundred metres they handed over the casualty group to two team members and returned to their walk. The dog is experienced in the hills but the owner has since contacted the team to say he realises his mistake attempting Tryfan and to thank the team for their help."
