A MAIN road in Towyn has reopened after a vehicle crashed during a police chase.

The car - a Volkswagen golf estate - was being pursued by police on Gors Road on Saturday morning when it crashed into a ditch after a bend, North Wales Police said.

The force has confirmed that the driver has been arrested on suspicion of having committed "various driving offences".

The Welsh Ambulance Service has confirmed a woman was taken to hospital following the incident.

The road was closed for over four hours before reopening shortly before 2.30pm.

Police said the chase started on the A55 after officers from the Roads Policing Unit spotted the Volkswagen being driven dangerously, with it eventually ending after "some time" on Gors Road.

A North Wales Police spokesperson said: "At approximately 9.55am today a red Volkswagen golf estate was reported to police as driving dangerously on the A55.

"When officers from the roads policing unit attempted to stop the vehicle, this led to a pursuit on the A55 where the vehicle failed to stop for some time.

"The vehicle attempted to negotiate a right hand bend and failed to do so - resulting in it coming to rest in a ditch on Gors Road, Towyn.

""The driver has been arrested for various driving offences."

"Officers are appealing for any witnesses who may have seen the vehicle to contact North Wales Police on 101 quoting reference number Y114538.”

A Welsh Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We were called at 10.19am to reports of a car involved in an RTC (road traffic collision) with a ditch.

“An ambulance was dispatched and we have conveyed an adult female to Glan Clwyd Hospital.”
