Police have been granted a Dispersal Order in Towyn

It comes after concerns were raised from the local community and reports of incidents of disorder in the area.

The Dispersal Order is in place in Towyn from 6pm on Friday, July 24, for 36 hours until 6am on Sunday.

The power enables officers and PCSOs to direct individuals who they believe could commit crime or disorder to leave the designated area for a specified period. Failure to comply with the order could result in arrest.

Youths under the age of 16 can also be returned to their respective homes by officers as part of the order.

Sgt Kevin Smith, who applied for the order following consultation with local elected representatives, residents and community members, said: “Denbighshire & Abergele Coastal Neighbourhood Policing Team have been working with the local community, business leaders and locally elected persons in Towyn regarding incidents of anti-social behaviour and disorder that have occurred since the easing of lockdown restriction which continued last weekend.

"To support them, District Inspector James Keene has authorised a dispersal order that will start today and last until Sunday (July 26) to tackle any potential incidents of anti-social behaviour.

"There will be an increased police presence in the area. Officers will be engaging with the public and will utilise the powers afforded by the order if and when required.

“Towyn is a focal point of entertainment, leisure and tourism and relies on visitors, residents and business owners enjoying what this town has to offer. The Neighbourhood Policing Team is part of the community and we will ensure that the minority do not impact on the positive image of the area.”
