TWENTY people had to be evacuated from their homes following a huge fire in Gwynedd over the weekend.
At 4pm on Saturday, fire crews from Bangor (x2), Llanfairfechan, Abergele, Llangefni and Llandudno were called to a fire on Bangor Mountain.
It took until 12.51am the next day to get the incident under control as 2500 square metres of bracken and gorse had caught fire.
The incident was thought to have been started deliberately.
Tim Owen, Arson Reduction Manager for North Wales Fire and Rescue, said: “Deliberate fires place tremendous strain on resources, with our crews committed for a considerable length of time trying to bring them under control - which prevents us from attending genuine emergencies. Actions like this do not help us keep our community safe.
“Remember - setting fires is a criminal offence and we are actively working alongside North Wales Police to combat such incidents. We would urge anybody with information on such crimes to contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or North Wales Police on 101.”
