A BLAZE attended over several days by numerous teams of firefighters has now been extinguished, it has been confirmed.

Fire crews were called on Wednesday evening to the incident, at the Hafod Quarry in Johnstown, at around 7.12pm.

The crews have been at the site every day since the blaze started.

But just before 2pm on Saturday, Natural Resources Wales confirmed the incident had finally been brought to an end.

In a statement, a spokesman said: "We are pleased to confirm that the fire that has been burning at Hafod Quarry Landfill, in Johnstown, Wrexham, is now extinguished.

"North Wales Fire and Rescue Service will be leaving the site later today (Saturday, May 30).

"The landfill operators, Enovert, will monitor the site over the weekend.

"Natural Resources Wales will liaise with Enovert to agree the next steps for the site.

"We would like to thank everyone for your patience and cooperation during this time."
