A FOOTBALL club has not taken lockdown lightly as they prepare themselves for next seasons new criteria set by the Welsh FA.

All clubs within the Welsh National Premier League have had to re-adjust and conform to the strict list of ground improvements to remain in Tier 3.

FC Queens Park in Caia Park has come up against a number of obstacles. Despite securing a grant from the Welsh FA to help with the development, it was dependant on the club securing a lease of the land from Wrexham Council.

However, due to a number of issues, the club has been without the lease and in turn lost their grant.

An ambitious fundraising event was therefore set up, which would see the club virtually travel from Land’s End to John O’Groats then back to Wrexham, all 1,365 miles.

Each participant would have to either walk, run, bike or row and record their data to show their progress.

A spokesman for the club said: "This was a great way for first team manager Dave Evans to keep an eye on his players fitness. The whole community was allowed to join in and it soon become a huge hit within the estate and further afield.

"The club targeted £1,500 and smashed this target within the final few hours of the challenge. The end of the event was marked by club legend Macca Ellis producing the final mile 'Capt Tom' style in his front garden, which became known as the Macca mile.

"The club would like to thank everyone involved especially all the non playing members that got involved, the youth set up and players. We now look for the end of the lockdown to access our situation and see where we will be playing our football next season."
