A CITY centre park has been cordoned off by the police after a man was taken to hospital.

Officers were seen at The Level off Ditchling Road in Brighton this afternoon.

Witnesses said there were four patrol cars at the scene, and said they could see an area near the skate park being taped off by the officers.

It was reported that a man was assaulted and suffered a minor hand injury, thought to be caused by a blade.

Police are working to find out what happened.

The force said: "We were called to Ditchling Road at 4.30pm today to reports a man had been assaulted.

"He was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital with a minor hand injury, thought to have been caused by a small blade.

"Officers are currently working to establish the circumstances surrounding the altercation.

"Anyone who witnessed the incident or has any further information on it is asked to contact Sussex Police online or by calling 101 and quoting the serial number 1175 25/5."
