THE North Wales Fire and Rescue Service team is reminding people to 'take extra care' when discarding smoking materials following an incident in Kinmel Bay.

On Sunday night, two crews from Rhyl attended two bungalows which had caught fire on Foryd Road.

The blaze was believed to have been started by a discarded cigarette and led to five people being checked over at the scene.

A spokesperson for the Fire Service said: "Two crews from Rhyl were called to Foryd Road, Kinmel Bay at 11,49pm on May Sunday.

"Two bungalows were involved in the fire. Five casualties received precautionary checks at the scene

"The fire is thought to have been started by a carelessly discarded cigarette.

"We would like to warn residents about carelessly discarding smoking materials and appeal for people to take extra care."

The Fire Service is also reminding people to take the strain off their services during the coronavirus pandemic by urging them not to be tempted to burn garden or household waste.

A spokesperson said: "At the moment, we are all staying at home with our families more than usual. The warmer weather means that a lot of us will be sitting out in our gardens, drying washing outside, and more homes will have their windows open.

"We are asking residents to think twice before lighting garden fires and bonfires to protect those who may have respiratory problems by not creating smoke in the open air."
