FEARS have been raised that people are planning to visit Snowdon soon - despite the message 'beauty spots in Wales are closed'.

Walk up Snowdon has seen a massive spike in traffic on its site.

In a Twitter post, a spokesperson said: "We've seen a massive spike in traffic on the site, so looks like many are planning to walk up Snowdon soon.

"Please remember that Snowdon and all other beauty spots across Wales are closed."

The following mountains are closed to the public until further notice:

Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon)

Cader Idris

'Ogwen' - Y Garn, Glyderau, Tryfan and Cwm Idwal

Aran Benllyn and Aran Fawddwy

Maps showing all routes and areas with closed access is featured on the Snowdonia National Park website.

A statement on the site reads: "We have worked hard to try and maintain a balance between closures of the honey pot sites to deter visitors and ensuring that local people are still able to exercise from their doorstep whilst government guidelines allow for this.

"We know that because of these closures some communities have less access to open spaces and we apologise for this, but our priority at this time must be to prevent the spread of the disease and to protect health services. For the avoidance of doubt, the closures that are in place apply to all members of the public.

"The main advice in relation to the current situation is as follows:

"Do not travel – exercise outside close to your home

"Go alone or with members of your household - keep two-metres / six and a half –feet from others at all times

"Be vigilant with hand washing and hygiene – Be aware that gates, stiles and other outdoor structures are touched regularly

"Do not undertake new or risky activities – Stay safe during this time of increased burden on our emergency and health services

"Follow the Countryside Code - Consider farmers and others who are working hard to keep our shelves stocked and infrastructure running."
