SIX new cases of coronavirus have been confirmed in Denbighshire in the last day, figures show.

Public Health Wales figures reveal that the county had six new cases overnight, taking the total number in Denbighshire to 290 - the second highest in North Wales.

Anglesey had two new confirmed cases, whilst Conwy had four and Gwynedd had five. Flintshire has had 22 new confirmed cases of the virus, whilst Wrexham had 12, taking its total to 293 - the most in North Wales.

Nationally, 26 more people who had tested positive for coronavirus have died in Wales - taking the total number of confirmed deaths past 1,000.

The confirmed number of Welsh cases now stands at 10,669, with 36,389 people having been tested for coronavirus.

Dr Giri Shankar, incident director for the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak response at Public Health Wales, said: “Public Health Wales is working with the military to deploy a number of mobile testing units.

"Three of these units were available last week, and a further five will become available this week. Once these units are deployed, their ongoing management is being handed over to the relevant health boards.

“We seem to have passed the peak and flattened the curve of new cases of Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) in Wales, which appears to be an indication of the effectiveness of lockdown measures. We are currently working with Welsh Government to determine the best approach for when the lockdown is eventually eased.

“We will be increasing our testing capacity in the weeks and months to come and it will be essential for us to exploit all possible technology to create a streamlined and digitally enabled process to support this. The recommendations in the Minister’s review will be helpful in achieving this.

“We are encouraging everyone to download the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) Symptom Tracker app, which has been supported by Welsh Government. The app allows users to log daily symptoms to help build a clearer picture of how the virus is affecting people."
