A RHYL Welsh Youth Parliament member was chosen as a keynote speaker at the Cymru'n Cofio Wales Remembers event.

Jonathon Dawes spoke alongside First Minister of Wales Mark Drakeford, Elin Jones AM Presiding Officer and Carwyn Jones, former First Minister of Wales.

Jonathon, a tennis coach, said: "This event was all about thanking everyone involved in the Welsh Government programme and all it has achieved since 2014.

"In my speech I spoke about the importance of remembrance in teaching young people about the importance of peace and reconciliation and how we must remember what they sacrificed for young people to enjoy the freedoms we enjoy today."

This took place before the Covid-19 measures implemented by the government.

Jonathon said in his speech: "These soldiers, between 1914 and 1918, without their sacrifice young people, like me, would not enjoy the freedoms we enjoy today.

"This why I am absolutely dedicated to ensure the work of Cymru'n Cofio continues past today. Teaching young people across Wales and the wider society the importance of remembrance."
