Another new case of coronavirus has been confirmed in Powys as one of 172 announced today.

Four more people in Wales have died from the virus, Public Health Wales confirmed, while the 172 new cases take the total in Wales so far past the 1,000 mark to 1,093.

The latest in Powys takes the number of confirmed cases in the county to 19 – although because testing is limited the true number is certainly higher.

The number of people to have died in Wales now stands at 38.

“We know that staying at home can be hard, and we want to thank each and every person across Wales for doing their bit to help slow the spread of the virus," said Dr Robin Howe from Public Health Wales.

“Members of the public must adhere to social distancing rules about staying at home, and away from others, introduced by the UK and Welsh Government."

The cases are now being announced by health board rather than local authority area, so the 19 cases for Powys are within the area covered by Powys Teaching Health Board, which covers as far as Ystradgynlais in the south.

However, there remains no confirmation of the exact locations of the cases.
