A NEW drive-thru Costa which opened its doors to customers last week has now shut up shop.

The new shop took, located at junction 25 off the A55 and close to Bodelwyddan’s Marble Church, had postponed its official opening - due to take place on Thursday, March 19, and instead opened just its drive-thru lane taking card payments only.

The store has now taken the disappointing but sensible option to close amid the coronavirus outbreak.

A message on Costa Bodelwyddan DT said: "We are devastated to have to announce this as we’ve waited months to open our new store and now after only a few days we are having to close.

"We know it’s for the best but so sad.

"Thank you to everyone who has supported us for the short time we have been open."

The coffee chain has temporarily closed all of its cafes.

Jill McDonald, CEO at Costa Coffee, said: "At Costa Coffee our number one priority is the safety of our store teams and customers. As the need to support social distancing increases, we have taken the decision to temporarily close our stores from Monday, March 23.

"We will do our best to keep Costa stores open in hospitals where we will continue to provide free takeaway coffee for the next two weeks to the NHS workers who are at the forefront of the crisis.

"I want to take this opportunity to thank our store teams, who during a lot of uncertainty over the past few weeks have continued to provide a warm and welcoming environment, and great service to our loyal customers."

One employee, at the new store in Bodelwyddan, said: "I feel under the current circumstances we’ve had a very successful opening and have been extremely proud to be able to provide our local NHS workers with free coffees and food, which we know they have been grateful for.

"We look forward to being able to officially open our store when the time comes and becoming part of the community."
