A POPULAR shopping outlet will close "for the foreseeable future" following concerns over the spread of coronavirus.

Tweedmill Shopping Outlet said it made the decision after "looking at the situation in other European countries" where the outbreak of Covid-19 is several weeks ahead.

"It is with great sadness and disbelief that we have had to make the decision that we will be closing the store at 4.30pm on Sunday, March 22 for the foreseeable future," a Tweedmill spokesperson said.

"Our customer and staff’s safety is our upmost priority and feel under the current circumstances this is the right thing to do.

"Looking at the situation in other European countries we foresee this lasting several weeks possibly months.

"We would like to take this opportunity to thank all our lovely customers and staff and look forward to welcoming you all again in the near future."
