THE climax to Rhyl’s classical music concert series will not go ahead tonight.

Due to Coronavirus concerns, Rhyl Music Club has cancelled the final show in its International Concert Series 2019/20, due to take place at Rhyl Town Hall on Wednesday, March 18.

The finale was to feature the entire North Wales section of male youth choir Only Boys Aloud, and would have meant performers from the Caernarfon, Holyhead, Rhyl and Wrexham choirs congregating in the town.

A spokesperson for Rhyl Music Club said; “Rhyl Music Club has decided that, in the current health situation, it will be wise to cancel the Only Boys Aloud concert in Rhyl Town Hall on Wednesday.

"It is with great reluctance that we have taken the decision now, knowing that it will be a big disappointment to all the young people who were due to take part as well as the audience for what would have been a most popular concert.

“However, we are very aware of our responsibility to safeguard the performers, our audience and the wider community at this time of rapidly changing health warnings.”

For the finale of the season - which runs annual from October to March - the club had intended to highlight their INSPIRE youth music project and would have also seen performances by members of Denbigh based Côr Cytgan Clwyd, prize winning tenor Rhys Meilyr, soprano Eirwen Roberts and cornettist Taya Castley.

The spokesperson added: “As this would have been the club's last concert of the season it is hoped to reschedule the event for next year. Nothing like this has happened in the club for at least 13 years, maybe far longer - but circumstances are exceptional and serious enough to warrant this action."
