SCHOOL children across Conwy and Denbighshire dressed up as their favourite literary characters for World Book Day.

From Forky in Toy Story 4, the Beast in Beauty and the Beast and an Oompa Loompa from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, youngsters pushed the boat out when it came to their colourful costume creations.

World Book Day, on Thursday, March 5, celebrates authors, illustrators and books.

The event, which acts as a celebration of reading, is marked in more than 100 countries all over the world.

Ysgol Y Foryd, in Kinmel Bay, saw a fantastic array of costumes from the pupils’ favourite books – even staff joined in.

Nicola Rowlands, headteacher at Ysgol Y Foryd, said: "We worked closely with Ysgol Maes Owen, our junior school.

"Year three paired up with year one pupils to enjoy stories and year four paired up with year two pupils.

"Each child brought their favourite story in to share with their friend."

Staff and pupils at Christchurch CP School, Rhyl, also made a huge effort.

Joanne Stickney, Foundation Phase Leader, said: "We had a fun filled day with new stories and classics and many activities in the classroom."

There was a number of Superheroes who flew into Ysgol Emmanuel including Thor, Captain America, Superman and Spiderman.
