PRIMARY school children impressed judges with a paper chain dragon and the use of the Welsh language as part of a competition to mark St David's Day.

As part of the Co-op run contest, schools were given a craft kit and were asked to explore and illustrate themes from their Welsh history and heritage.

About 30 schools across the region took part.

Christchurch Primary in Rhyl topped the challenge and will receive a £150 voucher to support its art and craft resources.

Their artwork will be displayed in the Co-op located in Ffordd Elan, Rhyl.

Carl Pettersson, Co-op area manager, said: “As a community retailer, Co-op is very much committed to connecting communities and bringing people together - our own heritage in Wales traces back to the mid-1800’s and we were keen to work with local schools to as they explored the history of Wales, celebrated St David’s Day and, showcased those things which they think are special in their communities. #

"We were delighted with the level of entries.

"It was hard to pick one winner. We hope the children at Christchurch Primary School enjoy using their new art and craft materials.”
