A DYSERTH man who was awoken in the middle of the night by banging had discovered an axeman outside his home, a special court heard today(SAT).

Nihat Colakoglu had feared for his life as 53-year-old neighbour Christopher Perrin, of High Street, Dyserth, battered a front door with the axe and stepped in his porch, magistrates were told.

“I was petrified he was going to enter the house,” Mr Colakoglu said in a statement.

Prosecutor Nia Lloyd said at Llandudno court that Perrin walked back into the garden but returned to the porch and his shopkeeper neighbour held a knife to try to scare him away. Police were alerted.

Perrin admitted affray on February 28 and racially-aggravated disorderly behaviour the previous day. The prosecution said during the earlier trouble he made comments including calling his neighbour an “----ing Turk.”

He was freed from custody on bail with conditions to live at Marine Drive, Rhyl, obey a tagged overnight curfew, not to enter Dyserth or contact the victim.

He will be sentenced at Mold crown court on March 26 and a pre-sentence report was ordered.

“Because of the aggravating factors we believe our sentencing powers wouldn’t be sufficient,” said court chairman Gwilym Morgan.

Defence solicitor David Jones said there had been no violence but damage was caused. There was a background of a neighbours’ dispute. The racially abusive language had been used after an argument.

“He’s pleaded guilty and is genuinely remorseful for his behaviour,” the solicitor added. Mr Jones said Perrin had worked for the post office previously but wasn’t employed at present.
