WREXHAM Council says it is raising the bar when it comes to quality housing and standards at more than 11,000 properties in the county.
The authority completed the Welsh Quality Homes standard in 2019 which saw housing tenants receive new kitchens and bathrooms across11,200 properties - but the council says the improvements did not stop there.
As part of its empty property strategy, the council says it has taken on-board the needs of council housing tenants, comparing them with the private rented market, the new advanced materials and working methods in the construction industry.
It has now embarked on a long-term strategy to improve its housing stock, which, it claims, will see properties at a level beyond any other local authority.
Typical works to an empty property now include, fully re-plastered walls and ceilings, replacement kitchens, bathrooms, fencing, landscaping and high quality decoration throughout.
The aims of this long term improvement strategy is to provide high quality homes, reducing the need for repairs, and provide a home tenants can be proud of.
Feedback from our tenants includes:
“It is beautiful!”
“I can’t believe the difference compared to my old property!”
“It’s like moving into a show home.”
“You would never think this was a Council property.”
“What our tenants deserve”
Cllr David Griffiths, Lead Member for Housing, said: “This is great news and it’s good to know that we are now exceeding the Welsh Quality Homes Standard which is what our tenants deserve.
"We will continue this work into 2020 to improve the housing stock to ensure it remains of a high standard.”
