FUNDRAISING continues in support of a project planned for Prestatyn.

The Prestatyn Business Forum want to develop ‘A Whale Tail’ at the seaside – six 2.4-metre high sculptures, with the aim of attracting more people to the area and acting as recycling bins to encourage people to clear up plastic pollution.

In aid of the project, a masquerade ball will be held at The Beaches Hotel, Prestatyn, from 7pm on March 28.

It promises to be a fun-filled evening with a drinks reception, three course dinner, live band and much more.

Anyone interested in attending is asked to get in touch with Steve Johnston as soon as possible (07947642186), as there are only a limited number of tickets available (£45).

Prestatyn Business Forum needs to raise around £32,000 to help the project take off. It has so far raised around £22,000.

Project manager Sally Smart: "It's been a very positive effort so far but the ball is going to be the big one for us.

"We have to thank the schools, Rotary Club, Hideaway and so many others for helping us out along the way so far. Barclays Bank have even match-funded the money we've received so we're now up to roughly £22,000.

"The Whale Tails project is designed to help tackle pollution but we also want it to be educational and unique."

Jacha Potgieter, an environmentalist who was responsible for creating the eye-catching Rhino located at Betws-y-Coed train station, is behind the design for the whale tails project.

The South African regularly uses his artwork to help raise awareness of worldwide conservation issues including the fight of the great apes and plastic pollution.
