RESIDENTS are being called on to report incidents of fly-tipping on a Wrexham estate that is being blighted with dumped rubbish.

The latest rubbish dumped in the streets and alleyways around Coed Aben in Caia Park seems to be household waste, such as food packaging along with boxes for children's toys.

Some of the rubbish

Residents have also complained of waste being dumped near the River Gwenfro through the estate.

The resident who took these latest photos, who has asked not to be named, feared the problem would get worse if council plans to reduce the frequency of household bin collections went ahead in a bid to meet Welsh Government recycling targets.

"I have noticed a significant increase in fly-tipping around the Queensway Ward of Caia Park, particularly in Coed Aben. If the council implement a three weekly bin collection, this could only get worse."

However, on Tuesday, Wrexham Council scrapped controversial plans to switch to emptying bins once ever three weeks instead of the current fortnightly service.

Toys and rubbish have been dumped

Queensway councillor Carrie Harper said: "Unfortunately this has been and ongoing issue. To be fair it has been happening for a couple of years but the challenge as ever is to discover who is doing it."

She added that she had been contacted by a member of the public about the latest rubbish that had been dumped.

She said: "I have been made aware of this latest incident and have passed it on to Streetscene.

"I want to take this opportunity to praise Streetscene. The lads are doing a good job and when things are reported they get to grips with it."

The deputy leader of the Plaid Cymru Group on the council added that, although it wasn't an excuse, part of the reason for the fly-tipping issue was that half of the residents in the ward did not have a car.

Cllr Harper urged anyone with information about fly-tipping to report it to the estate office so it could be dealt with and hopefully the culprits could be traced.
