A RHYL charity shop has welcomed home one of UK's oldest surviving heart transplant recipients.

Edward Tierney visited the British Heart Foundation Home (BHF) Store on the High Street to support the charity's raffle and help raise £742.

When he was given his heart transplant in 1984, Edward was told was told he only had five years left to live, but is still fighting fit today at the age of 79. Although he no longer lives in the area, he used to live on Wellington Road in Rhyl above his shop Eddies Odds & Ends, from which he which sold DIY good in 70s and 80s.

Gareth Bolton, store manager at the BHF Home Store, said:“It was an honour to welcome Edward back to Rhyl and we are very grateful for his support with our charity raffle. Back in 1984 heart transplant survival rates were incredibly low, but thanks to lifesaving research people like Edward are now living longer, more active lives."

With the help of volunteers at the store we were able to raise £742 to help improve thousands of people's lives affected by heart and circulatory diseases in Wales.
