A PAIR of Rhyl co-workers have been hard at work sharing festive good cheer - and plenty of chocolate oranges - with emergency service professionals.

Linda Friar of Prestatyn and Denise Dale of Kinmel Bay, who work together at Wilko Rhyl, have smashed their target of 500 Terry’s Chocolate Oranges by 109 - and counting - as part of this year’s Chocolate Orange Collection.

To mark the end of this year's campaign - which saw gifts handed out to nurses, fire crews, police and more - the Rhyl Sky Tower was lit up with orange lights on Friday, December 13.

Mrs Friar said: "Beating last year's target was amazing, we would like the idea grow even bigger next year, so we can thank even more well deserving people.

"The more chocolate oranges we have donated to us, the more we can give out.

"It's been an absolute pleasure to meet so many amazing people over the last few days. Just one small random act of kindness can mean so much and to be able to put a smile on someone's face is an amazing feeling."

The Rhyl collection is part of a wide, national campaign which was started by in 2011 in St Helens by Chris Lamb to commemorate his son Elliot who died in 2010.

Following the collection, the pair began distributing the gifts a day early on Thursday 12 to staff of North Wales Fire and Rescue at stations in Abergele, Rhyl and Prestatyn as well as Holywell and Llandudno.

On the main day of the campaign on Friday 13 they visited multiple wards at Glan Clwyd Hospital, including A & E and the cancer unit, as well as giving out chocolate oranges to passing staff in "random acts of kindness".

On final hand out on Sunday 15, Mrs Friar and Ms Dale headed to Ambulance, Lifeboat, Coastguard and Police stations in Rhyl stations and the Police emergency call handlers in St Asaph.
