TWO talented sailors have received further good news with yet another national squad selection.

Freddie MacLaverty and Keira Luke, Year 7 pupils at Rydal Penrhos School in Colwyn Bay, were rewarded for their exceptional run of recent results with a place in the RYA Cymru Wales National Feva squad for their upcoming winter training programme, which will boost their respective skills considerably in the coming months.

The pair will take part in five weekends of specialist coaching on the water alongside other squad selections, which will stand them in good stead as they look to further enhance their ever-growing reputations next summer.

Their selection was the culmination of an exceptional few weeks for the duo, who secured an unbelievable triumph despite their tender age at the British Youth Sailing Welsh Regional Championships.

They produced a sensational effort in testing conditions throughout the weekend, winning their final two races to emerge victorious in the U18 General Handicap fleet at just 11-years-of-age.

This represents an unbelievable achievement for the pair in their junior RS Feva boat, with Freddie and Keira also finishing first in the Mixed Boat category thanks to their sterling performance.

Senior School Head Sally Ann Harding, said: “Both Freddie and Keira have worked incredibly hard throughout the season and they are thoroughly deserving of all the plaudits coming their way.

“To secure national squad selections is a testament to their ability to thrive in a competitive environment and their willingness to improve both individually and as a pair.

“Everyone at Rydal Penrhos is thrilled for them and wish Freddie and Keira the very best of luck with the squad.”
