A PRESTATYN hair and beauty salon is part of a new scheme, working with the Down’s Syndrome Association.

Rebecca Morgan-Brennan, owner of Morgan’s Hair, Beauty and Wigs, teamed up with the association after being inspired by her step-son Jack, who has Down's Syndrome and autism.

Jack is unable to take part in work-based activities due to the severity of his condition.

Catrin Davies, 24, has since joined the team. Catrin works for three hours a day, twice a week and as part of her role, folds towels, washes hair, makes drinks for clients, meets and greets, cleans brushes and sweeps up hair.

Rhyl Journal:

Catrin has been developing her social skills and has been meeting and greeting clients

Rebecca said: “We have teamed up with the Down Syndrome Association to offer a young person with Down's Syndrome the opportunity to be a part of our business and for them to benefit from the social interaction involved in hairdressing.

“After contacting the DSA’s WorkFit scheme and meeting with one of their employment development officers the search was on for a suitable candidate.

“We think it’s important for young people with Down's Syndrome to get a chance in life, to build their confidence and people skills and to help them grow as an individual.”

Rebecca said Catrin has brought energy and happiness to the salon.

“She is a pure delight to work with,” Rebecca added.

“Catrin is a very bright young lady. She always looks modern and smart for work and brings a smile to so many of our client’s faces. Her work is very thorough and she always gives her best effort.”

Morgan's is hoping to work with a training provider to supply Catrin with more training towards a hairdressing career.
