CUSTOMERS have raised concerns after finding out money they had paid for shopping hasn't yet come out of their bank.

A notice has been put up at the new Aldi store in Rhyl on Marina Quay stating the due to a technical error, Mastercard and Visa payments made at the store between August 15 and September 22 have not been processed.

Customers who made a payment on card during this period will see the transaction appear on their bank statement from Thursday, October 3.

Concerned shopper Nicola Summerfield, who has been shopping at Aldi for 15 years, said: "I am really worried. I generally spend £50 a week for shopping and because I have so much going in and out my account, I didn't notice the money had not left. I saw something was pending and assumed it was the shopping.

"I found out on Facebook. I could have put money to one side if I had known.

"They just put a piece of paper on the door that someone has photographed and put on Facebook.

"I have got kids in college and have to pay for school dinners. It is going to be hundreds of pounds coming out."

A mother of two young toddlers, who asked not to be named, said: "I am disgusted that they can just take the payment with no warning or nothing.

"I am just fuming. I don't check my bank as I'm so busy looking after my two toddlers and I'm ill with fibromyalgia too.

"For Alidi to ask for their money back six weeks later is disgusting. My partner lost his job last month and we are struggling financially. We just don't know what to do."

Shopper Lisa Jones said: "I go in every day. A manager has rung me from head office. They say they don't understand what went wrong but people will still be charged."

Chris Ruane, MP for Vale of Clwyd, said: "This is obviously a huge concern for anyone who has used the store and paid by card over this time."

Mr Ruane contacted Aldi and recieved a response.

They told the politician that due to GDPR regulations, they were unable to contact individual customers directly, but have made announcements via social media channels and have placed notices in their Rhyl store.

A spokesperson for Aldi said to the Journal: "We apologise for any inconvenience this has caused and want to assure customers that card payments are now being processed at this store as normal.”

Any customers concerned that payments may lead to overdraft charges are asked to contact Aldi's customer services team on 0800 042 0800 or email customer.service@aldi.co.uk.
