CALLS have been made address safety concerns which are damaging the image of the White Rose Centre.

Persistent leaks from the car park above the shopping precinct on the High Street, have left cleaning staff struggling to contain water in an increasing number of buckets.

In a busy section of the centre’s the walkway - by the Sky stand near The Works and Vodafone - has caused a large obstruction for customers, who are being forced navigate around more than 25 open buckets and multiple warning signs.

A retailer, who wishes to remain anonymous, said: “It’s a common sight to see buckets dotted across the precinct floor over the last five years, but over a period of a couple of weeks it’s become a joke.

“The area is a bit of a bottleneck anyway, and now the buckets cover almost the entire width of the walkway. It’s a miracle no one has hurt themselves yet. I have seen a few people stepping over or accidentally kicking the buckets.

“A company did try and fix the leaks a while back, but they’ve only gotten worse. However, I can’t fault the cleaning staff at the centre - they work so hard to keep on top it and it’s almost a full time job managing the leaks when there is heavy rain.

“I know the White Rose is an old building, and from the point of view of the owners it’s probably not economically viable to repair - that if it was a car, it probably have been written off by now.

“But it needs to be fixed. With all the talk about restoring Rhyl, what reason are we giving shoppers to come here rather than Llandudno or Prestatyn? Rhyl’s High Street has really been struggling, and the state of the White Rose centre is an important part of that.

“I can definitely say, as a retailer that having buckets and signs all over the floor is affecting trade.”

The White Rose Centre has been approached for comment.
