GRANTS totalling about £4,000 have been obtained by a dementia steering group.

The group, in Rhuddlan, has received the funding from the National Lottery’s Community Fund and Denbighshire Voluntary Service Council.

The money will enable the group to run a number of activities over the next 12 months including musical memories in the library, dance and movement sessions, coffee morning and information sessions for shops and businesses.

Cllr Arwel Roberts, chairman of the Dementia Group said “It’s really wonderful news that the group has been successful in obtaining these funds so that we can provide a range of activities in the town.

"The music, dance and movement activities will be focussed on those people that are living with dementia and their families and carers but they are open to everyone and there is no charge.

"We encourage everyone to come along to our activities and coffee mornings because one of the group’s challenges is to overcome the stigma that many people have about dementia.

"Many people living with dementia can still live active and enjoyable lives and that’s what our activities are all about.

"We welcome everyone to our activities, all ages, and they give people the chance to come along and have tea or coffee and make contact with others, this can be so important for people that live alone."
