ART lovers are in for a treat as a three-week festival is about to begin.

The Artwave Festival runs across Lewes, Newhaven and Seaford from Saturday until September 1.

Visitors will be welcomed into studios, galleries, workshops and in some cases even artists’ private homes.

Now in its 26th year, Artwave gives up and coming local artists the opportunity to show their work across 140 separate exhibitions.

The diverse range of work on show will include jewellery, painting, sculpture, printmaking, textiles, illustrators, ceramics, stone carving, metalwork, photography and performance art.

Visitors can follow the mapped-out walking trails and visit artists in the places where their work is created around the three towns and surrounding villages.

All the stalls, exhibitions and activities are free.

Artwave is also hoping to inspire the next generation of artists through three family workshops.

The nature and environment-themed workshops take place in Newhaven this weekend and in Seaford

this weekend and next weekend.

Meanwhile the Amazing Art Cart will visit Lewes on Saturday, August 31.

Lewes District councillor Ruth O’Keeffe, cabinet member for tourism, said: “This arts event is genuinely like no other.

“Being able to visit so many wonderfully creative people, often in their own homes, provides an added dimension to appreciating the artwork on show.

“I encourage everyone to pick up a brochure or go online and plan a visit, through rural idylls or bustling towns, you are guaranteed to discover some real Artwave gems.

“I would like to give special thanks to all the generous supporters, sponsors and the artists who are taking part this year without who Artwave would not be possible.”

Visitors can pick up a free guide from Lewes and Seaford Tourist Information Centres.
