CHAMPIONS Menai Bridge Tigers kicked-off their Gwynedd League title defence with an emphatic 5-1 home triumph over Waunfawr.

The all-conquering side have lost some key members of the squad following their failure to secure the necessary licence to secure promotion, but early indications show they are going to be a force to be reckoned with once again this term with another polished display on their return to competitive action.

The home side got off to a positive start and went ahead on 21 minutes when Lewis Mitchell Jones found the net, and this was swiftly followed by another on the half hour mark which arrived courtesy of Callum Davidson.

After the interval saw a net effort from Ryan Owen on the hour increase their cushion further, with Jordan Pritchard converting another opportunity to seal the victory with 69 on the clock.

Dafydd Healy rounded off the scoring from a hosts’ perspective on 75 minutes, with Adam Lloyd netting a consolation for the away side late on.

Newly formed Trearddur Bay Bulls also got off to a flyer with a 7-0 rout at Glantraeth.

The merged clubs of Trearddur Bay and Bryngwran Bulls made light work of their opposition throughout a stylish attacking performance that featured a hat-trick from Gwynfor Owen, a brace from Justin Williams and further strikes from Aswin Williams and Tom Hadley.

Another side to achieve a huge opening day triumph were Bro Goronwy, who secured a resounding 5-0 home success over Llanystumdwy.

A treble from Jac Thomas did the majority of the damage, with Ryan Jones and Jordan Edney also hitting the target for the hosts.

Two goals from Carl Jones was the highlight of Nefyn United’s 3-0 home win over Bethesda Athletic, with Llangoed and Caergybi sharing the spoils in a 2-2 stalemate.
