MORE than 300 families have taken advantage of a school uniform recycle scheme.

Citizens Advice Denbighshire school uniform recycle started on Monday, July 29 with pop up shops at the Market Hall, Denbigh; the Pop In Centre, Prestatyn and the ASK Centre in Rhyl.

So far 460 children have had items of clean, pressed, school uniform, donated by children and their parents across the county.

On Monday, August 5 the scheme opened in Ruthin (Market Hall), Llangollen (Pengwern Community Centre) and Corwen (Canolfan Ni Community Centre).

The scheme is run in partnership with Citizens Advice Denbighshire and Denbighshire County Council and support has also been received from Denbigh and Rhyl town councils and the Community Foundation Wales.

Lesley Powell, chief executive officer (CEO) of Denbighshire Citizens Advice, said: "We are so pleased to be able to extend the scheme across all the county this year, we could not have done this without the support of the staff, volunteers, community, schools, Denbigh and Rhyl town councils and Denbighshire County Council.

"All the families attending the scheme will be offered a follow up advice session to make sure everyone is claiming all their benefits, credits and grants.

"We would encourage all families to check if they are eligible for the School Uniform Grant, free school meals and to come to our pop up shops."

Citizens Advice Denbighshire is also providing vouchers for school uniforms for low income families, who don’t qualify for the school uniform grant, for children in Denbigh High School and Rhyl’s Christ the Word Catholic School.
