WET weather failed to the dampen the spirits at a special fundraising event held on Sunday.

The fun day to raise money for Marie Curie was held in memory of Elain Cruse, 64, who died in April following a battle with lung cancer.

She lived in Rhyl and worked for Denbighshire County Council. She was married to Tony and was a mum and mum-in-law to Mark and Shelley and Daniel and Kirstie.

The event held at the Ffordd Las Community Centre in Rhyl was organised by Mrs Cruse's family, aimed to thank Marie Curie for their help in looking after her before she died.

It featured bouncy castles, glitter tattoos, face painting, donkey rides, refreshments, fairground rides, children’s entertainment, stalls and so much more.

There was also performances from singer Nicki Renshaw, choirs and a special visit from Chris Ruane MP , who joined in with the fun at the "net a duck" pond.

Mrs Cruse's sister Jennie said: “Elain was one of the most beautiful people to grace this earth, her beauty shone from within with a truly amazing heart filled with love and kindness.

“In her final couple of days, we became aware of support available from Marie Curie. We called the out of hours doctors and the Marie Curie nurses answered. I remember asking them to come quickly, they reassured me and were with us as soon as possible.

"They were so kind to Elain. I will always be indebted to Marie Curie for helping her that night.”
