Two sisters are taking on a gruelling walking challenge in aid of the hospice which cared for their mother.

Bev Hill, 54 from Penrhyn Bay and Zsazsa Noden, 49 of St Asaph have signed up for a nine-day trekking adventure along The Great Wall

of China to raise funds for St David’s Hospice.

In May 2020, the siblings will conquer one of the Seven Wonders of the World as they join the group of St David’s Hospice supporters who will hike along the magnificent man-made structure.

It will not be an easy trek, some sections can sometimes take an hour just to trek 1km due to a number of steps up and down. The sixth day will see them tackle 1,000 steps that make up the ‘Heavenly Ladder’.

Together, Bev and Zsazsa have set themselves a fundraising target of £6000 as their way of saying thank you to St David’s for the care their mum, Sandra Williams received.

Sandra, originally from Llanrwst had Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) for many years, a lung condition that causes breathing difficulties and sadly passed away in 2017 aged 69.

Bev, who works at the hospice as a lottery promotions officer, said: “Working for the hospice is a privilege and a place I am proud to be part of. Our family saw the difference St David’s Hospice can really make.

“Mum attended weekly Fatigue, Anxiety and Breathlessness (F.A.B) sessions which were held at St David’s. She went for a couple of months and was able to manage her breathing more effectively and regain a sense of control. She was so grateful for their care, support and practical advice.”

The F.A.B programme, a therapy-led service, is aimed at improving the quality of life of people suffering as a result of their illness.

It is one of many ways St David’s supports local people, their families and carers in their Inpatient Unit in Llandudno, Therapy Centres in Bangor and Llandudno, as well as in the comfort of patient’s own homes via our Hospice at Home and Outreach services.

All the services at the Hospice, including FAB sessions, are free of charge to patients and their families. To achieve this, the local charity needs to raise more than £4 million every year to continue the care.
