CARNIVAL spirit was well and truly felt in Prestatyn this weekend.

A parade on Saturday - at Prestatyn Carnival - saw entries from businesses, groups, charities, visiting royalty and bands, together with participants from Nottingham, Ashton Under Lyne, Manchester, Liverpool and Cheshire.

There was a colourful procession of fabulous floats, musicians and entertainers.

Entrants 'bopped' their way through the town centre, then travelled along Bastion Road. Carnival royalty was led by 2019 Queen Lucy Phillips, 10. Lucy was supported by her royal family - Carnival Queen Princess Evie, Prince Charlie, Rosebud Aaradhya and attendants, Emily, Seren and Elin.

The mayor's theme for best entry was It's Only Rock n' Roll. This was won by Cuddles, with Childline taking second place and Phase Radio snapping up third place.

Following the parade, a feast of entertainment awaited visitors on the carnival field

Both traditional and modern entertainment was showcased. Special performances were given by Samba-Reggae Percussion Group Batala Bangor, Clerical Error Morris Dancers and Street Entertainers.

A Buddy Holly Tribute was performed by Glenn Mitchell.

Joy Williams, chair of the organising committee, said: "The event was very well attended, both along the parade route and on the field.

"The weather was on our side, with a damp early morning, turning into blue sky by mid afternoon.

"On behalf of Prestatyn Carnival Association, I would like to thank everyone who supported the event, either by volunteering their services for the day, helping to organise the event, or coming along on the day to watch or take part.

"The carnival is truly a community event and is a day when everyone can come together to celebrate everything great about our town of Prestatyn."
