A BANNED driver who drove at speeds estimated at more than 140mph was jailed for 14 months today (Friday).
It happened on the A55 dual carriageway in North Wales in the early hours of June 22 and David Wright, 23, of High Street, Bangor pleaded guilty to numerous driving offences including dangerous driving, driving whilst disqualified, failing to provide a breath sample and having no insurance.
Caernarfon crown court heard that a blue Audi R8 was pursued by traffic police and armed officers from Llandudno Junction as it headed towards Bangor, refusing to stop.
Eventually Wright was arrested after running out of fuel on a slip road at Llandygai, near Bangor.
In addition to being jailed he was disqualified for a further three years and seven months and must sit an extended re-test.
After the case PC Daniel Darbey of the roads policing unit said: “Wright showed a complete disregard to the courts who had already disqualified him from driving. It is incredibly lucky that there wasn’t a collision due to his reckless and irresponsible behaviour.”
