A DISABLED man has been left frightened for his life after being attacked by three masked men.

Philip Jones, 63, of Garden City, said he is scared to return to his home at Riverside Park after the men attacked him with hammers.

He said: "I was in the car with my partner about to reverse out to go shopping when a masked man came to the side of the window and knocked.

"I lowered it and he asked who I was, he thought I was someone else so I showed him my ID to prove I wasn't who he thought I was.

The Leader:

Philip Jones was attacked outside his home in Garden City

"The only way I could prove it wasn't me was to show them my license.

"The other two got out the car and checked the address and said I was the man they were looking for, but it wasn't me.

The Leader:

"That was when they opened the door and hit me with hammers.

"I had to go the hospital and have stitches and I'm badly bruised. I managed to get away by reversing, I was very lucky.

"It's not something you expect to happen on a Saturday afternoon.

The Leader:

Philip Jones had to go to hospital for treatment

"I haven't upset anyone. The only think I can think of is some sort of mistaken identity."

The 63-year-old, who suffers COPD, osteoarthritis and anxiety and depression said the incident has affected not only his physical health but his mental health too.

He is urging residents to remain vigilant and be aware of individuals approaching your vehicles.

Mr Jones added: "I haven't been able to return to my flat, I'm too frightened in case they turn up again. If they've done it once, who's to say they won't do it again.

The Leader:

Philip Jones suffered injuries to his legs

"I also can't climb the stairs to get into my flat because I'm on crutches, it's too painful, I can't bend my leg.

"I'm living in fear. I'm trying to recover from my injuries both physically and mentally but it's affected my partner as well, we haven't slept since Saturday."

Mr Jones said his partner - Eileen O'Rourke is also afraid to return back to his flat.

He said: "I want people to be vigilant, be careful of people approaching your vehicle.

The Leader:

Philip Jones required stitches to his wounds

"I'm no spring chicken but at the end of the day it could have been someone older than me which is really frightening

"They've got my address now and they know who I am.

"You don't expect this to happen to you, we were going to go shopping and get something to eat.

"I thought it was a wind up, I had no idea who they were looking for.

The Leader:

"I just don't want to go back, I'm frightened for my life and my partner is terrified to go back.
