A MAN was spotted shooting ducks at Rhyl's Brickfield Pond.

The man, aged between 25-35, was reportedly seen by a cyclist pulling the dead ducks out of the pond with a net and putting them into a blue carrier bag. He was seen using a brown rifle and was seen shooting three ducks.

RSPCA Cymru has launched an appeal for information.

Jenny Anderton, RSPCA inspector, said: “This shocking incident took place at around 1pm on June 26.

"It is very distressing to think that people take pleasure in causing harm to defenceless birds.

"This appears to be a deliberate act of cruelty and I am appealing for anyone with information as to who shot these ducks to get in touch."

The incident happened at about 1pm.

Ms Anderton added: "We would also like to remind members of the public that all wild birds are protected under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 and it is an offence to kill, injure or take them during the close season* without a licence."

Anyone who saw this incident or has any information should call the inspectorate on appeal line 0300 123 8018.

*Section 2 (4) of the Wildlife and Countryside Act defines close season for wild duck and geese as February 1 to August 31 in this context.
