A 17-YEAR-old girl has died following a serious crash near Ruthin.

The crash happened on the B5105 between Efenechtyd and Ruthin at about 7.30pm on Thursday, June 27. The incident involved two cars – a red Ford Fiesta and a black C Class Mercedes.

The 17-year-old was a rear passenger in the Ford Fiesta and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The three other occupants of the Fiesta – the 17-year-old male driver and 16 and 17-year-old female passengers were airlifted to hospital in Stoke with serious injuries.

The 52-year-old male driver and 76-year-old female passenger from the Mercedes were taken to Glan Clwyd Hospital in Bodelwyddan with serious but not life threatening injuries.

Chief Inspector Alun Oldfield of North Wales Police said: “Our thoughts remains with the family of the young woman and everybody else involved in this collision.

“Our investigation is underway and we would like to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time or who may have witnessed the collision or events leading up to it.

"We are also keen on speaking to anybody who may have been travelling in the area and who may have dash cam footage.

The road re-opened shortly before 3am this morning.

A spokesperson from the Welsh Ambulance Service said: "We were called on Thursday, June 27 at approximately 7.34pm to reports of road traffic accident involving two vehicles on the B5105 near Ruthin.

"We responded with three rapid response vehicles, four ambulances and we were supported by three aircrafts of the Wales Air Ambulance and by the Police services.

"Multiple patients were transported by road and air ambulance to Glan Clwyd Hospital in Bodelwyddan and University of North Staffordshire City Hospital in Stoke."

A spokesperson from North Wales Fire and Rescue said: "We were called at 7.45pm. We sent two crews, one from Ruthin and one from Denbigh.

"The incident involved two vehicles. We made the vehicle safe and gave casualty care."
