A SPECIAL event in memory of an "inspirational woman,' the murdered MP Jo Cox, raised £200 in Beaumaris.

A 'Great Get Together' coffee morning was held at the David Hughes Centre last Friday.

Great Get Together initiatives are held nationwide in memory of the former Labour Member of Parliament for Batley and Spen, who died in July, 2016.

According to organisers the Beaumaris event proved "a great success," bringing the community together to enjoy cup cakes, and gingham style iced biscuits, whilst boosting funds for three charities.

Albert Owen MP for Ynys Mon, who was a friend and colleague of Jo Cox, said he was delighted at the turn out and thanked the organisers for their hard work.

“It’s an event close to my heart, Joe Cox was a friend, colleague and an inspirational woman.

"Her legacy through these Great Get Together events reminds us all that we are stronger together, building vibrant and tolerant communities throughout the country."
