A MINISTER has paid a visit to a new innovative affordable housing scheme in Denbighshire.

Rebecca Evans AM, minister for finance and Trefnydd, visited an innovative housing scheme currently under construction in Denbighshire recently, which will provide 38 new affordable homes for local people.

The new homes in Llanbedr DC are being developed by ClwydAlyn Housing Limited, in partnership with Denbighshire County Council, the Welsh Government, Woodknowledge Wales and contractor Williams Homes, Bala.

The circa £8 million scheme is financed by £5.6 million of Welsh Government Innovative Housing Programme (IHP) grant funding.

Rebecca Evans said: “I am pleased that Welsh Government funding is helping innovative housing projects take shape.

"I am sure the future residents will be thrilled – what a beautiful place to live.”

The minister was welcomed to the site by ClwydAlyn’s chief executive officer.

She said: “We’re delighted that these homes are progressing so well.

"They are highly insulated and energy efficient with low-cost heating and hot water coming from a state-of-the-art communal air source system which requires no gas.

"It was a privilege to show the minister how the scheme is progressing.”

The scheme is a mixture of two and three bed family homes and bungalows, with the structure of the homes being manufactured off site by Williams Homes, Bala.

Owain Williams, managing director of Williams Homes, said: “It was great that the minister was so interested to learn about how we use locally sourced materials and labour to support the local economy, as well as discover more about the technical innovations of these homes.”

They were also joined by Llanbedr DC member on Denbighshire County Council, Cllr Huw Williams.

He added: “These homes are a welcome addition to the village, which have been sympathetically designed in keeping with the local area and retaining a greenspace for children to play safely."

When completed, the homes will be available to rent from ClwydAlyn.

Low cost home ownership options will also be available and a local lettings policy will be in place ensuring that new residents will have a link to the area.
