A FLORIST has celebrated its 10th birthday by spreading mystery bouquets and goodwill to worthy mums and carers in Rhyl.

Carol Parr, owner of FlowerTops on Wellington Road, has shared her gratitude with the community alongside the mayor of Rhyl cllr Ellie Chard by awarding Margaret Jukes of Prestatyn the ‘Mum of the Month’ award and a free bouquet of flowers following a competition on social media.

Mrs Jukes was nominated by her daughter Perl Rustin for her work caring for husband Ron Jukes for more than 20 years until he died in October 2018 of pneumonia, sepsis and organ failure, as well as supporting Perl through her degree and birth of her first child.

After being surprised by the award on Friday, June 21, Mrs Jukes said: “I always knew I was appreciated, but I feel very privileged and my daughter Perl has always been a very devoted daughter.”

Mrs Parr said: “Perl told Margaret just before she came in, she was very overwhelmed and lost for words with the whole occasion. As I read the nomination to her she was very smiley and teary, but it was a lovely.

“It was very rewarding for me, it’s so nice to be able to give something positive and have people come in and feel special.”

This latest in a series of celebrations of mums and carers coincides with the multi-award winning and Interflora accreddited florists' 10th birthday in May.

To celebrate, Mrs Parr has also been busy distributing 'lonely bouquets' throughout Rhyl with signs instructing finders to "Take me home with compliments from FlowerTops".

Mrs Parr added: “I like to give back to the community and thank them for their support for the last ten years.

"I started FlowerTops 10 years ago after both my husband and I lost our well paid jobs, starting the business with a pasting table and moving into a shop a year later.

"I have built it up from nothing during the recession and hard times that Rhyl has also faced. .

"I strongly believe that the service we provide and what we give back is a high point for what has made us a continued success through adversity."

The shop also runs Carer and Nain 'of the Month' competitions, with the next presentation set for July. To nominate someone visit FlowerTops' Facebook page.
