WALES assistant manager Osian Roberts has been confirmed as an official ambassador for the Huws Gray Ynys Mon 2019 Inter-Island Games football competition.

A veteran of the Island Games himself, having guided the island’s men’s team to numerous medals in the 1990s and early 2000s, Roberts has since gone on to stardom within the Welsh set-up, as technical director at the FAW Trust and playing a pivotal role in helping to guide the men’s national side through arguably the most successful period in its history.

Roberts, said: "I'm delighted to have been asked to be an ambassador for the Huws Gray Ynys Mon 2019 Inter Island Games Tournament on Anglesey and I am very much looking forward to meeting all of the teams and officials at the tournament's opening ceremony on June 15.

"The people of Ynys Mon are going to see a fantastic, competitive tournament and a lot of teams that are going to represent not just their islands but their countries with massive pride – our players won’t just be representing Ynys Mon. They’ll be representing Wales too!

"I hope that every island enjoys their experience of visiting Ynys Mon, and Wales, and takes the opportunity to get around the island and enjoy our wonderful beaches, our scenery and the warmth of our people.

"Take advantage of any opportunity to see as much as possible and to experience the island. We’re thrilled to have you here and we will do everything we can to make you feel as welcome as possible."

The Anglesey-native will not only act as an official tournament ambassador, but he will also be involved in a question-and-answer session at the event’s opening ceremony at Holyhead Leisure Centre on Saturday, June 15.
