BETHESDA got their North Wales Cricket League Division One campaign back on track thanks to a five-wicket win at Abergele.

The home side set a target of 121-7 from their allotted 50 overs in the middle, with Ed Rooney producing a sensational display to secure vital lower order runs on his way to an unbeaten knock of 51 from 71 deliveries.

Iwan Thomas secured another double-figure score with 323 before he was eventually removed by Andrew Day, with Josh Lloyd’s 13 the only other score to make it into the teens during a difficult time in the middle for the Gele batsmen.

The impressive John Maloney was the pick of the visiting attack, helping himself to three wickets for the loss of just 14 runs from a 12-over spell, with Carwyn Williams claiming two victims at the expense of 13.

Things did not begin well during the initial stages of Pesda’s run chase as opening duo Williams (5) and Jez Shea (0) were dismissed by Lewis Tolond and Owen Lynam, with the latter also disposing of Matthew Harrington after the talented shot-maker made just four.

Tolond further aided his side’s cause with the prized scalp of wicketkeeper Nicholas Parry for a duck, and the home side were given a further boost when Mike Thompson skittled Ioan Roberts for 18.

That proved to be the final wicket that the hosts could muster during their time in the field, with a superb partnership from skipper Jonathan Williams and Dewi Roberts getting the away side over the line as they finished on 39 and 33 not out respectively.

This enabled them to reach their total with four overs to spare for the loss of five wickets, and Pesda will look to build on this positive result when they host Bersham on Saturday.
