CONWY extended their lead at the North Wales Cricket League Division One summit thanks to a six-wicket home triumph over Hawarden Park.

The unbeaten title hopefuls restricted their opponents to 149 all out from 43 overs in the middle, with Jo Forde top scoring clean bowled by Gareth Thomas after top-scoring with 34.

Other scores of note came from Craig Wilson and skipper David Hughes, who made 27 and 22 respectively, and Ian Martin (13) also made a double-figure score to boost the visitors’ overall score.

Graham Meredith was the pick of the home bowlers, helping himself to three wickets for the loss of 41 runs, with Shaun Davies and Rajjenu Britto claiming a pair of victims apiece at the combined expense of 34.

Things did not begin well for the hosts at the crease as Shaun Davies and brother Danny were both sent back to the pavilion early on after making three and 17, with Jonathon James Davies fell to a stunning caught and bowled by Hughes on six.

The home side responded with a score of 26 from Thomas, and Britto was a constant presence throughout on his way to a tremendous unbeaten innings of 73 that included ten boundaries.

This proved to be the difference between the two sides, with Evan Williams (22*) also there at the end as the promotion candidates reached their required target with three of their allotted 50 overs to spare.

Britto’s men now enjoy a six-point cushion at the top of the standings ahead of their next outing at Carmel and District on Saturday.
