A BOYS’ hockey side at a Colwyn Bay school ended a hugely positive season by going unbeaten at a national competition.
Rydal Penrhos’ U12 side travelled to Newtown for the Welsh Schools’ Championships earlier this month, which saw the squad compete against other successful qualifiers from across the country.
They began with a strong defensive display to secure a 0-0 draw with Christ College Brecon, before achieving the same scoreline with another stout display full of quality against Llanidloes High School.
The North Wales champions saved their best performance for last in their 3-0 triumph over Bishopston Comprehensive School, ensuring Rydal Penrhos ended the competition in second place.
A very strong overall display saw the go without defeat in three matches without conceding a goal, and there was further cause for celebration from a school perspective as Harry Fardoe was named Player of the Tournament.
Allen Boyd, director of sport at Rydal Penrhos, said: “This was another superb effort from our U12 side, who have developed significantly both individually and as a unit throughout the season under the guidance and support of our coaching staff.
“There was not much more they could do to clinch the title, going unbeaten without conceding, and this bodes extremely well for their future prospects.
“A special mention for Harry, who was thoroughly deserving of his Player of the Tournament honour.”
